Annual Volunteer Firefighter Skills Checklist
Every year, all volunteer firefighters of the Santa Clara County Fire Department must have
all of the following skills signed off. Most of these will be accomplished by attending the
regular weekly training meetings; other skills signoffs require visits to stations to demonstrate
the skill being signed off on.
Many of the skills on this checklist are also required for Firefighter 1 qualification. Many
volunteer firefighters get both checklists signed off concurrently.
Preface
The subjects listed on this checklist will form the basis of the material used for your yearly
volunteer firefighter training. It is your responsibility to have the listed items signed and
dated by an officer as you complete training in these subjects. The officer will sign this
checklist only when you, the volunteer firefighter, have shown competency in this subject.
All standards are referencing the latest edition of the
Training Manual, the Department of
Transportation - Emergency Response Guidebook, the Field Operations Guide ICS 420-1, or the
IFSTA Manuals. The responsibility shall be that of the volunteer firefighter to show documentation
for references when asked by the company officer.
Your Skills Checklist will be evaluated quarterly to measure your progress of its
completion. It must be completed and filed with the Training Division no later than the
first Volunteer Business Meeting of January of the following year.
