Seven SpringsSeven Springs Fire Station Built: 1992
Seven Springs station is responsible for the department's HAZMAT response ("HAZardous MATerials") and HAZMAT inspection program. The station also does SCBA bottle air refilling and medical oxygen bottle refilling. View Larger Map Hazmat 2 is a 2004 KME. Hazmat 2 is unique in the county. In addition to the usual complement of tools that every engine carries, (lighting, cords, fire extinguishers, brooms, shovels, communications, tools, etc.), Hazmat 2 carried a large amount of additional equipment and supplies that no other vehicle in the department carried. Hazmat 2 not only responded to all structure calls in it's area, it also responded to all second alarm calls in the department, as well as mutual response with neighboring departments for hazardous materials and rescue calls. Hazmat 2 is a rolling toolbox and office. Note that the rear passenger compartment has only one door, on the Captain's side, to provide additional interior office workspace. The vehicle is equipped with lots of exterior lighting, roll-out awnings on both sides, and lots storage area on it's roof. (The access ladder is shown deployed.) The equipment that it carries is listed below. Photos 8 Nov 2004. At the time of this photo, the rig has been in use for three days.

Breathing Support 2 is a 2005 KME. It carries a large supply of spare SCBA bottles as well as an on-board refilling station. Battalion 2 is a 2010 Ford F250 XLT Super Duty 4x4 4-door short-bed pickup. It has a roll-out command center in the back, and access doors on both sides of the bed cap.
Utility 6 is a 2008 Ford F550 Super Duty flatbed stakeside. Along with general purpose hauling duties, it is available for use as an emergency response prime mover for the various trailers (hazmat, rescue, mass casualty).
Also available for special calls is this 14' (3.5m) dual axle H&H trailer, which contains supplies for a mass-casualty decontamination. These supplies include a quick assembly dual-line (one for men, one for women) decontamination shower tent with water heater, post-decontamination clothing, etc.
Reserve Hazmat 2 is a 1988 Ford/Paoletti Cargo 800. Unlike the new Hazmat 2, it's office was in the rear, and there is only room up front for three people.

Former engine 2 is a 1988 KME/15750 with a 1500gpm (5685 l/m) pump and a 500 gallon (1895 l) tank. It is now serving as Reserve Engine 102.
With increased staffing, the former Hazmat 2 could not carry 4 firefighters. Former battalion 2 was put into service as Hazmat 2B. Nicknamed "Mini Me", it followed Hazmat 2 to all calls, carrying two firefighters and extra equipment. This Chevrolet Suburban was not relabeled (note old "B2"), because it's duty was temporary until a new, larger capacity Hazmat truck was ordered.
Reserve Engine 102 was a 1979 Van Pelt/International with a 1000gpm (3790 l/m) pump. It was sold in 2002. |
