Taking care of young children is a big responsibility. For young adults ages 13 to 17, this one-day course covers a variety of topics including ethics and responsibilities, personal safety, emergency situation skills including basic first aid and choking, and how to provide quality child care. You may sign up for this course by contacting your local community center. The dates of upcoming classes are listed below.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Plan activities that are appropriate for children of different ages
  • Take appropriate measures to maintain a safe environment
  • Properly report emergencies
  • Learn basic first aid and choking skills
  • Safely respond to emergencies such as fire or earthquake
  • Develop basic business skills while establishing themselves as quality child care providers
  • Recognize and properly respond to inappropriate adult behaviors or suspected child abuse
