Santa Clara County Fire Department

Juvenile Firesetter Intervention Program

To help reduce the number of fires and burn injuries caused by children experimenting with fire, the Santa Clara County Fire Department offers a Juvenile Firesetter Intervention Program. Our program is offered in two formats:

One-on-One Intervention

  • Children 10 years old and under and teenagers 15 to 17 years of age.
  • Intervention is provided by trained educators and firefighters.
  • To set up an intervention, contact the Public Education Office.

2-Day Workshop Intervention

  • Offenders 11 to 14 years old.
  • Comprehensive 2-day workshops that target at-risk youth, ages 11 to 14, who have expressed an interest in fire and/or have been involved in firesetting activities. The workshops will teach students important fire and life safety skills, encourage positive self-esteem, the importance of being responsible as well as how to make better choices. Parents or guardians are requested to attend the first 30 minutes of the program and assist his/her child with homework assignments. Student participation is a critical element to the success of this workshop. Unacceptable behavior will not be tolerated and assignments must be satisfactorily completed to receive course certificate. Students may want to bring a snack from home or snacks may also be purchased on-site during the break.

Contact the Public Education Office for additional information about the Juvenile Firesetter Program.

The tougher it gets to be a kid…the tougher it gets to be a parent. Parent Project is a 12-week program that teaches parents effective prevention and intervention techniques to help their teens swim against the tide and grow into safe and competent adults. Click here for more information.
