Juvenile Firesetter Intervention Program
To help reduce the number of fires and burn injuries caused by children
experimenting with fire, the Santa Clara County Fire Department offers a
Juvenile Firesetter Intervention Program. Our program is offered in two
formats:
One-on-One Intervention
- Children 10 years old and under and teenagers 15 to 17 years of age.
- Intervention is provided by trained educators and firefighters.
- To set up an intervention, contact the Public Education Office.
2-Day Workshop Intervention
- Offenders 11 to 14 years old.
- Comprehensive 2-day workshops that target at-risk youth, ages 11 to 14,
who have expressed an interest in fire and/or have been involved
in firesetting activities. The workshops will teach students important fire
and life safety skills, encourage positive self-esteem, the importance of
being responsible as well as how to make better choices. Parents or
guardians are requested to attend the first 30 minutes of the program and
assist his/her child with homework assignments. Student participation is a
critical element to the success of this workshop. Unacceptable behavior
will not be tolerated and assignments must be satisfactorily completed to
receive course certificate. Students may want to bring a snack from home or
snacks may also be purchased on-site during the break.
- To enroll your child, please contact the
Milpitas Community Center directly (408.586.3210).
Contact the Public Education Office for additional information about the
Juvenile Firesetter Program.
