Associate Public Education Officer Gina Cali gives a Fire Safety presentation to the Philanthropic Education Organization for Women (PEO) group in Los Gatos. She is holding an ashtray; according to the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association), smoking is the leading cause of fire deaths. She is demonstrating that if you must smoke, use an ashtray that holds the cigarette in its center, not on the edge. That way, when the cigarette burns down, it won't fall outside the ashtray and start a fire.
A volunteer assists in demonstrating the best way to put out a pan fire: cover it with a lid.
Cali answering questions about extension cords.
Another volunteer demonstrates the proper use of a home fire extinguisher, using the P.A.S.S. method (Pull pin, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep.)
