In 1968, a new engine was purchased. It was a Van Pelt 750gpm (2840 l/m) pumper and was placed in service at Loyola Station. Los Altos ran three of the International cabover Van Pelts. The 1968 (Engine 76) and 1969 (Engine 74) units had gasoline engines with the separate Chrysler engine for the 750gpm (2840 l/m) pump. They each had 500 gallon (1895 l) tanks. The 1971 (Engine 71) unit had a diesel engine, and a 1000gpm (3790 l/m) midship pump, with a 500 gallon (1895 l) tank.The 1969 Van Pelt, identical to the one purchased in 1968, was stationed at the El Monte Station.

Los Altos had this 1984 Pierce Dash running as Engine 1. It had a 1250gpm (4740 l/m) pump and a 750 gallon (2840 l) tank. This engine later served as County Fire Reserve Engine 115.
