Two shots of firefighters observing a hillside fire beside Engine 7, a International/Van Pelt. This fire, in the late 1970s, was caused by a bulldozer hitting a major gas main while working at the Kaiser Permanente quarry in Cupertino. The bulldozer operator was killed; the firefighters are waiting for PG&E (the local gas company) to shut off the gas to this main before attacking the fire. Note that the firefighter on the right has "Vol. Div." on the back of his coat. This method of identifying volunteers is no longer used; now, volunteers are identified by their black helmets.

Cutting a fireline. Based on the lack of deployed hoses, and the fact that the spectators seem more interested in the wheelwell than the action, this is probably a drill and not an actual fire. Early 1970s; the engine is still labeled for the Los Gatos Fire Department, but has County Fire emblems.
