"Find the AED Contest"
Find the locations of Automated External Defibrillators (AED) in Santa Clara County Fire Department's jurisdiction and specifically in the City of Cupertino for your chance to win prizes!
How to enter:
2. Read Terms and Conditions before playing.
3. Starting April 15, 2015 use the PulsePoint AED app to submit as many AEDs as you can find throughout Santa Clara County Fire Department’s (County Fire) response territory and also in the City of Cupertino.
4. Click here to determine where County Fire’s response territory is.
5. Cutoff day & time for submissions is May 15, 2015 at 11:59pm Pacific Standard Time.

Wildland fire safety
Is your property prepared for a potential wildfire?
To assist residents in safeguarding homes and property from wildfires, Santa Clara County Fire Department offers the following lists of preventative measures that will greatly reduce the risk of loss or damage to your home.
- Remove all flammable vegetation at a minimum of 30 feet around all structures or if you live outside the city/town limits 100 feet.
- Use fire resistant plants.
- Remove all pine needles and leaves from roofs, eaves, and rain gutters.
- Trim tree limbs 10 feet away from chimneys or stovepipes and remove any dead limbs hanging over rooftops.
- Cover chimney outlets or flues with a spark arresting, 1/2" mesh, screen.
- Post a clearly visible house address, using at least 4" high numbers, for easy identification.
- Assemble emergency supplies and belongings in a safe place.
- Plan escape routes and make sure all those residing within the home know the plan of action.
- Harden your home with fire-safe construction measures.
- Use proper roofing materials for your home.
- Ensure your driveway is wide enough for fire department rig access and will allow you to exit your property.
Excellence in Service Awards
Seeking Award Nominees!
Santa Clara County Fire Department invites and encourages you to nominate peers, local agency members, and/or community members who you believe are deserving of recognition for the Excellence in Service Awards.
Medal of Valor:
May be awarded for an act of valor and heroism by a Fire Department member under hazardous conditions in which the person is placed in a life-threatening position to save the life of another.
Medal of Honor:
May be awarded to a Fire Department member who has performed outstanding service to the Department or to the public safety of the community with regard to fire and emergency service.
May be awarded to any group of two or more Fire Department members who make up a company, section, team or member work group which has performed in an outstanding manner worthy of recognition.
May be awarded to a Fire Department member who has performed in an outstanding manner worthy or recognition.
Award of Merit:
May be awarded to a Fire Department member based on performance of assigned duties, those duties having been carried out in an outstanding, superior manner such as to merit recognition for service to the Department.
Community Service Award:
May be awarded to a member of the Fire Department who has donated considerable time and/or effort toward the betterment of the community, not necessarily in a job-related manner.
May be awarded for an outstanding and/or exemplary act or accomplishment by a Fire Department member with regard to the safety of Department members. Criteria for this award will be determined by the Fire Department Safety Committee and the selection made by decision of that committee.
Outstanding First Responder:
May be made to a Fire Department member naming them as the "Outstanding First Responder of the Year" for having performed an act of valor and heroism; or for outstanding service to the Department or to the public safety of the community.
Kelly Seitz Memorial Award – Special Operations Task Force (SOTF):
May be awarded to a Fire Department member(s) naming them as the "Outstanding S.O.T.F. member(s) of the Year." Selection is based on significant contributions to the continuing development of the S.O.T.F. Program; outstanding performance during and S.O.T.F. incident; or significant contribution to improving S.O.T.F. safety. Criteria and selection for this award will be determined by A-Staff.
Outstanding Administrative Service Award:
May be made for an outstanding and/or exemplary act or accomplishment by a 40-hour member. Criteria and selection for this award will be determined by A-Staff.
Citizen Heroism Award:
The Citizen Heroism Award may be made for an act of valor and heroism by a citizen under hazardous conditions in which the person is placed in a life-threatening position to save the life of another.
Citizen Lifesaving Award:
The Citizen Lifesaving Award may be made to a person outside the Fire Department who has been involved in a lifesaving effort at an emergency scene before the arrival of the Fire Department or who has provided extraordinary assistance to Fire Department members in a lifesaving effort. This nomination is normally made be Fire Department personnel assigned to the incident.
Letters of Commendation:
Awarded for acts of public service, which bring a high degree of credit to an individual, group or agency. Nominations may be submitted year-round to the committee.
Thank you for your submission! Award recommendations submitted for Fire Chief approval are subject to the EiSA Committee’s interpretation of award criteria.
