Evergreen - Historic PhotographsEvergreen sat at what is now the intersection of S. White Rd and Aborn Rd on the east side of San Jose. The station was demolished due to widening of both streets as the growing area produced more and more traffic.

Then and Now: Left: Engine 5, a 1948 White/Van Pelt. It had a 500gpm pump and a 500 gallon tank. Photo date unknown, but the license plate would place it between 1956-1963. Right: the same engine, January 2010. After it's service with County Fire, it was sold to the Penngrove Fire Department, who sold it to the Odeyan Buddhist Retreat for private fire protection. It was then sold to a vineyard in Geyserville for use pumping irrigation water. Now in the hands of a Napa area member of SPAAMFAA, it is in the process of being restored to it's original condition. ![]() all: Santa Clara County Fire Dept Archive
Utility 1 was a 1951 2-1/2 ton International stakeside, placed in service in 1957, that was housed at Evergreen Station. According to Annual Reports of the era, it was maintained in operational readiness for use in transporting materiel and personnel to major disaster areas. The truck was equipped with a field kitchen, portable pumps, hand tools, rope and other miscellaneous equipment. All photos dates unknown.

Two views of the 1956 International L-series/Van Pelt which responded from the Evergreen station as Engine 5. It had a 750gpm pump and a 500 gallon tank. This rig was assigned to Engine 5 from 1962 to at least 1969.
