Hiring Process 

  1. Open recruitment announcement is posted.
  2. Submit an employment application including all required documents specified on the job announcement by filing deadline.
  3. All applications received by the filing deadline will be reviewed by Personnel Services to determine if the applicant meets the minimum employment standards. Qualified candidates will be invited to take the written examination.
  4. The candidate must achieve a minimum score of 70% in the written examination in order to be invited to an oral board interview.
  5. Depending on position to be filled, qualified or most qualified candidates will be invited to participate in an oral board interview.  On occasion, a written and/or verbal exercise may be required.
  6. The candidate must achieve a minimum score of 70% in the oral board interview in order to be placed on an eligibility list.
  7. The top three candidates on the eligibility list will be invited for a final interview with the division chief/manager.  The selected candidate will be offered a conditional offer letter.
  8. The conditional offer may include completing and passing a background check/investigation, Live Scan fingerprinting, psychological evaluation, medical evaluation, and/or uniform fitting, if required.
  9. Once the selected candidate successfully completes and passes the requirements of the conditional offer, a final offer will be issued.
  10. Newly hired employees will be on probation for a period of 12 to 18 months, dependent upon the position, and will receive quarterly performance evaluations.
